Other names: Commiphora myrhha
Element: Earth
Planet: Mars, Moon
Zodiac: Cancer
Ritual uses include: Sanctification; Protection; Death; Funeral; Love
Myrrh has an ancient history as a sacred resin, and was pivotal to the mummification process. It, of course, is also referred to in the Bible and used in orthodox rites. During the writing of the Greek Magical Papyri (which are more Alexandrian than Greek, owing a lot of conceptual content to Egyptian thought) Myrrh Gum was used in many of the love rituals recorded. Out of the materiae magicae of ancient times, it probably has the least defined elemental and zodiacal correspondences. But it's clearly Martian, and looks like blood before it hardens on plant.
